High School Summer Nites

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Dear High School Students (and your family),

I hope you are having a great summer full of fun, relaxation, river trips, and rest. I recently asked a student what their favorite part of summer is, and the simple response was, “Sleep.” Can you identify with that? What has your summer been like so far? What has been the best part for you? Can you believe that it’s halfway over? (I couldn’t either).

Before you really start thinking about school again (too late now) I want to provide you with an opportunity to be together with other Senior High students from the valley, and specifically Mountain View Church. BeginniBest Question Everng July 19th we will be meeting in people’s houses (see the schedule below), enjoying snacks, watching and discussing a short video, and playing games. The video is from a series called “The Best Question Ever” by Andy Stanley and I think it will be a great encouragement as you approach the new school year. There is one question that you can ask in every situation that will help you foolproof your life and make better decisions.  We are going to learn about that question and how it works out in real life.  This is something you won’t regret. I am also looking forward to playing ultimate Frisbee in the park, going on a scavenger hunt, and having a bon fire late into the night. Each week we will start at 6:30 p.m. and go until whenever.

See you July 19th!!!

2009 Mission Trip

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

This summer’s mission trip will take place in South Fork, Colorado. While the trip is intended for HS students, 9th grade through graduated Seniors, everyone is invited and encouraged to come to the training.  The first training we will have will be this Sunday April 26th, at the church in place of Sunday School.  We will begin at 8:00 am in order to have enough time before the Run 4 Youth at Two Rivers park.  The details for the trip are as follows and any questions you have will be answered Sunday morning.

Parents are encouraged to attend and join their students in the process of preparing to go be a witness.  Middle school students are also invited to come as it will be a time to prepare them for the future.

  • August 1st - 8th
  • South Fork, CO
  • $450 covers everything
  • Pre-trip curriculum and training will be provided

We are teaming up with Youthmark for this year’s mission trip.  They will be here for the training and will also be bringing shirts that support Charity:Water. This is an organization that focuses on bringing water to developing countries (I love it!).  So bring a few bucks to buy a great shirt and help an organization that is doing their best to bring the love of Jesus (and water) to people who need it.

March Madness, come on over…

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

March MadnessMarch Madness is upon us and since RFSD doesn’t have school this Friday we are inviting any students who want to come to our house to watch it to join us.  All we ask is that you bring some kind of snack food or drink with you to share.  The games start at 9:00 and end later that night.  Stay as long as you want or go home early, you don’t have school the choice is yours.  For directions email me jared (at) mvcglenwood (dot) org and I’ll be happy to help you get here.

B:W Update

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Since the new year we have been supporting Blood:Water Mission with giving every week.  Up to this week our students had give over $81.00 to this great cause.  Well this week alone they gave $40!!!  Way to go guys.

The cool thing about this is that for every dollar that we give to B:W, they can provide an African with clean water for a year.  Our students are making a difference.

Blood:Water Mission

3 Weeks ago I challenged our middle school students to give to Blood:Water Mission. We have installed a mailbox in the Den where students can give their money and everything they give on Wednesday night through the end of the year will be given to B:W.  So far we have given over $46 to help provide clean blood and water for Africans.

In the spirit of Lent (also known as giving something up) I am challenging our students to give up drinks for 40 days.  The idea is to drink only water for 40 days and give the money you save to B:W to help provide clean water for villages in Africa.  Encourage your students to join in on this, do it as a family, and come together to help in this cause.  We will be handing out “scorecards” on Wednesday night to help students keep track of their progress and you can find other resources on the B:W website.
